Intruder Policy for Invacuation/Evacuation and Fire
The Club @ Wraparound Care Limited
Updated June 2025

The Club @ Wraparound care is committed to keeping all children safe at all times.

Alongside our centralised safeguarding policy, the following sets out to outline protocol in the event of an intruder in our settings.

Circumstances which trigger an invacuation:

*Swift response in the case of immediate threat to life and safety of staff and children in our setting.

*Attacks are unpredictable in nature to second guess a violent attack at any time. Staff should be alert as to the site security base and buzzer systems for access and exit.

Responses as follows:

*RUN – Escape as safely as possible insisting others follow.

*LEAVE – All belongings behind.

*HIDE – Find cover/shelter if escape not an option. Heavy brickwork/walls safer. Bullets can penetrate wood/glass/brick and metal.

*Stay away from the door.

*Silence your phone.

*CALL 999 – Alert emergency services as soon as is possible with location/direction of intrusion/description/casualties/injuries/hostages/weapons seen.

*Keep hands in view at all times.

Alerting other members of the community on site:

*3 sharp whistle blows

*Contact reception/Security team/Senior Teachers on site if possible.

*Call 999

If an alert is raised during session time:

*All children remain/move directly into school based allocated space.

*Staff close and lock all access to outside the space.

*Children sit quietly under tables and out of site where possible.

*Staff to encourage children to remain calm.

*Remain in this position until the school/emergency services offer further instruction.

Evacuation procedure:

*Termly drills combining both indoor and outdoor fire drills with children being informed on the day of the trial.

*1 long whistle blow to alert children.

*Children to file out to outdoor space quickly and calmly and form lines in year groups.

*Staff to register children

*Staff to record success criteria

Training:

*Policy shared with all staff.

* DSL (Odette Cohen) to model first drill attempt for staff.

*DSL to inform parents of the policy.

*DSL to review the policy annually.
